Pirin National Park

Pirin National Park was established in 1962 and covers an area of 40 000 ha of ancient forests, marble giant peaks, emerald lakes, clean rivers and white edelweiss, which are a natural landscape and habitat for many animals – white goats and cats, fallow deers, bears, wolves and more. Pirin National Park is part of Man and the Biosphere Programme of UNESCO.

31% of the park territory is located in Municipality of Sandanski and is divided into two park regions – Kamenitsa and Trite Reki (the three rivers).
